A new scheme has been introduced to improve walking and cycling facilities in several areas of Fair Oak and Horton Heath, including Mortimers Lane, Winchester Road, and Eastleigh Road.
These changes aim to make travel easier and safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and bus users.

Improvements on Mortimers Lane
The main area of focus is Mortimers Lane, where improvements will be made between Pember’s Farm Avenue and Fair Oak Court. This includes widening the footways on the southern side to provide more space for pedestrians.
Additionally, continuous crossings will be installed, making it safer for people to move around. These changes aim to improve accessibility for both pedestrians and cyclists, offering a safer environment for everyone.
Upgrades on Winchester Road and Eastleigh Road
Winchester Road and Eastleigh Road will also see significant upgrades. On Winchester Road, the footways on the western side will be widened to accommodate both pedestrians and cyclists.
This new shared-use path will make it easier for both groups to travel without the risk of accidents. Upgraded crossings will also be added to improve safety and ease of movement.
Funding and Local Support
The project has been funded by S106 money, which comes from local development contributions. These funds help support improvements in areas affected by new housing developments.
The scheme aims to improve the walking and cycling routes that connect to the Pembers Farm development, providing better links between the local areas.
Local authorities, including Hampshire County Council, Fair Oak and Horton Heath Parish Council, Eastleigh Borough Council, and the local bus operator, have all shown their support for the project.
